- GRC team members joined partners and peers at the 2025 HIMSS Global Health Conference in Las Vegas to share ideas, explore innovation, and support collaborative work in healthcare technology. -

GRC was excited to join healthcare and technology leaders from around the world at the 2025 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas, held March 3–6.

Dr. Gil Liu, GRC Director, and Senior Project Manager Shea Smoske attended the event to support our partners from Research Information Technology (RIT), who presented their work on the Medicaid Perinatal Risk Tool (MPRT) alongside Epic—a major electronic health record (EHR) company. This was a big deal, as it was the first time Epic invited another team to present with them.

The presentation highlighted two key features of the Medicaid Perinatal Risk Tool (MPRT). First, automatic data sharing allows information from the electronic health record (EHR) to pre-fill parts of the Perinatal Risk Assessment Form (PRAF), which is then submitted to NurtureOhio—Ohio Medicaid’s system for tracking pregnancy and risk data. This process helps ensure that pregnant Medicaid members receive timely coverage and coordinated care. Second, the risk calculator uses both EHR data and information entered by a clinician to generate a score that reflects the patient’s risk level. This score supports meaningful conversations between providers and patients and helps guide decisions around care and support.

Outside of the presentation, Dr. Liu and Shea attended several sessions on health data standards, like FHIR and HL7, as well as project management. They brought back fresh ideas and inspiration to share with the GRC team.
